BPOM — food and supplements

BPOM registration for food and supplements

Processed food, beverages and health supplements need a BPOM registration number before distribution — and, for most categories, halal certification alongside it.

At a glance

Registration and halal, planned as one

For food and beverage, BPOM registration and halal certification are two obligations drawing on one body of evidence: ingredient origins, supplier certificates and process flow.

Running them sequentially doubles the document-chasing. Running them together is why we scope both at the same time.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Can BPOM registration and halal certification run in parallel?

Yes, and they usually should. The two dossiers draw on the same ingredient origins, supplier certificates and process documentation. Running them together removes a second round of chasing your suppliers for the same paperwork.

Will our existing health claims be allowed on pack?

Not automatically. Claims permitted in your home market may need to be reworded or dropped for Indonesia. We review the intended claims early, because a claim problem discovered at label stage means new artwork.

Do supplements follow the same route as food?

No. Health supplements sit in their own category with their own dossier requirements, even when the format looks like a food product. Confirming the category is the first step, not a formality.

What delays food registrations most often?

Ingredient origins that cannot be traced, and suppliers who cannot produce their own certificates on request. Both are far cheaper to solve before filing than during review, which is why the screening happens at scoping.
