SNI is the Indonesian National Standard. Most SNI standards are voluntary — but for designated product groups, compliance is mandatory and enforced at the border.
The designation is set by product group, not by brand or by country of origin. Goods in a mandatory group are held at customs without a valid SNI mark.

FAQ
Questions we get asked
Our product is certified in the EU. Is that enough?
No. Foreign certification does not substitute for a mandatory SNI mark, whichever market it came from. Existing test reports can sometimes reduce the testing required, but the Indonesian certificate itself is still needed.
Does the factory have to be audited?
For most mandatory SNI schemes, yes. The audit examines the production process and quality controls at the manufacturing site. We prepare the documentation set in advance, so the visit is not the first time those questions are asked.
Who holds the SNI certificate?
An Indonesian entity responsible for the product in the market. Where you have no local company, we can hold it as your representative and structure it so it can be transferred later.
What is surveillance, and what happens if we miss it?
Surveillance is the ongoing check after certification — periodic audits and sampling. Missing a surveillance cycle can suspend the certificate, and a suspended certificate stops shipments. We track the dates as part of the engagement.
How do I find out whether my product group is designated?
Send us the product and its HS code. Designations are issued and revised by ministry regulation, so the honest answer is that it has to be checked against the current list rather than remembered. That check is part of the free assessment.
